I often wonder if any of the Northern deer were transplanted in South Monroe co. We have 2 types of deer on our place. We have bucks that are a little taller but a lot longer and most of those bucks weigh around the 190-210 range. They are a dark grey color. Then we have what I call the normal Alabama buck. Not to tall, easy to hang under the skinning shed and weighs in the 160-190lbs range. I’m not a deer aging expert but I know it’s not different age classes. We have only killed 4 of the larger heavier bucks that I can recall. I killed 3 and all were in that 200-205lb range. The other one was killed by my brother and was 210lbs. They were 3 10pt and a 9pt. They all had little stickers coming off their bases and G3s. We are no longer running cameras so I’m not sure if we have any still roaming around. All 4 of those deer were killed at the beginning of December. I killed 2 of them on December 11 two years in a row back when they’d close the season the first 10days of December. Its very possible that someone could release high fence does under the radar and introduce a different doe lineage into a small area somewhere……You might be getting bucks dispersing from those populations…..Another reason for not doing any more fetal sampling…..You would know that was occurring if you started sampling in an area where it was happening in a county like Monroe that shouldnt have anything other than Jan does…..Without the sampling all you have is some stories of someone that saw a buck chasing does in Nov where you can just chalk it up to “That’s just Alabama for you!”

Why would anyone want to conceal rut information? The state didn't . In fact fetal studies for Jackson County confirmed what most of the Hillbillies already knew.
"Why do you ask"?
Too many people spend money they don't have , on things they don't need, to impress people they don't know.

What year did they come out with that rut map??.....Seems like that's been quite a while ago......Its never been updated or modified to show more accuracy.....It could be drawn with much more intricacy if they wanted to

It turns out that it wasn’t as complex as we thought…..though I still don’t think many understand what’s occurring…..even the experts. You seem to contradict yourself here. You are correct that the rut is not as complex as we once thought. Other than yearling does, the timing of estrous is going to be based on her genetics inherited from wherever her ancestors were released from, triggered by photoperiod. Pretty simple. It's not full moons, barometric pressure, cold fronts, or any other trigger your grandfather told you about in 1980. This is settled science at this point. I wonder sometimes why we quit with the fetal studies......The more we conduct those the more we continue to learn about the specifics of each area. Because it is not the state's job to tell me exactly the week of peak rut for every square mile of land in the state. I appreciate the prior studies that resulted in general guidance rut maps. But like Matt Brock said earlier, deer hunting is supposed to come with challenges and variance at the individual level. The state couldn't possibly document every little block of land where the rut varies, especially near shifting boundaries where one rut lineage is pressing against another. I like the studies, but if limited funds and resources have to be allocated, I don't really need the state to tell me when the rut is where I hunt. I know it every year within about a week. Sometimes I think maybe they stopped because they dont want folks to know.....but maybe that's just the conspiracy theorist in me You think the state intentionally conspired to give us a crazy rut and now there is a coverup????

I assume you mean that data didn’t support the extended seasons in much of the state?

Surely there would be no reason for the state not to want hunters to have insight into their rut dates.

So, will the rut be off this year due to no data from the state?

I assume you mean that data didn’t support the extended seasons in much of the state? I’m certain the data did not support the extension and this must be his inference. Surely there would be no reason for the state not to want hunters to have insight into their rut dates. Let me explain it like this……if we were to go into Clarke Co for example where the rut is pretty much all late Jan across the board and we turned loose 50 does that had a Nov estrous date…….How much competition do you think there would be for those 50 hot does in Nov when no other does were hot?? That concept is playing out in the wild in certain areas due to the way things got restocked where lineages overlap……It’s the very reason why Slayinbucks sees all of the activity he sees……His population of does is probably something in the neighborhood of 50% Dec does and 50% Jan does…..or something of that nature……But because half the doe population comes in a month ahead of the others it creates a much different buck to hot doe ratio when it happens…..especially when just a few miles down the road its 90% Jan does and nothing is in heat during Dec…..Where do you think the bucks from those surrounding areas with Jan does go in Dec?? There are gonna be properties in multiple areas around the state where these lineages overlap that experience something similar……Continuing the fetal studies would make these site specific properties more and more obvious to the public if they kept refining the map to show more accuracy……Those two little orange dots in Bibb and south Jefferson for example are prime examples of it just coming into focus ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/nj1C25h.jpeg)

Question for Double Creek and T-hatchie since y’all seemed interested in the topic…….Now this is totally hypothetical, no way anyone would actually do this………But lets just say us three were gonna turn loose those 50 Nov does into Clarke Co……What would be our best strategy for doing such so that we could take advantage of it from a hunting aspect?....Would we just turn them loose in the center of our property and hope for the best??.....Would we tie them to a tree and keep them on a rope? How would we go about it??

One, how do you acquire 50 Nov estrus does? I don’t see any on Facebook marketplace. Two, there is no legal means to release those deer into the wild.
