Primaries, pre rut, close to bedding areas , right at daylight have been productive for me . Scrape lines , not so much. Don't fall in love with scrapes during breeding , you'll be hunting behind mature bucks.

The few I’ve killed on scrape lines were in the morning and in areas with thick cover surrounding them. Find you about a 5 year old clear cut and check the little open lanes weaving through them. Only 2 bucks I’ve ever grunted up were on scrape lines in the same area. Both tore up with fresh rubs everywhere also. Hunt the thick stuff no one else does. Usually there is a way in there if you look hard enough

Back before buck limits I killed 5 racked bucks on public land off a big community scrape that was truck hood size. But it was a well used travel area and it clued me in on where to be.
We will burn that bridge when we get there

the biggest scrape in the line is big as a hot tub, near about round, surely surely near about truck hood size. i can approach from either of two directions, depending on wind ...

I don't bother with scrape lines but I like a lot of big rubs. I WILL hunt a community scrape. The does at my favorite one are there almost daily and that gets the boys attention close to the rut. Reckon the scrapes are mainly just to let the buck know when rut kicks off? Once that first hot doe pees in the scrape, its off to the races. From then on hes out crossing trails trying to find a hot doe. Thats what makes sense to me. Which means good place to hunt pre rut or right after 1st rut sometimes. But once they start popping, hes not gping to be anywhere near that scrapeline unless he just happens by there looking for another hot doe.

Varies. They make them in different places, at different times and for different reasons. I wouldn't hunt a spot just because I found a scrape. Gotta know the rest of the story. The giant community scrapes, for instance, would seem like a great spot but a lot of the time they're made in places you won't see a deer in daylight.

If I find several scrapes in a thick, knarly area, I’m hunting it.. I just can’t help myself.

I’ve killed some good deer working scrapes over the years. However, it’s too random of visitation for me to spend much time on them, especially past the pre rut phase. I’ve been placing trail cameras(in video mode) on scrapes for the last several years and have seen mature bucks working/visiting scrapes in areas that I would’ve thought would only been visited at night. It’s been a fun and informative research project for myself. During this time, I’ve also placed cameras on nearby beds, that I figured to be buck beds. They were indeed buck beds and was able to capture some cool videos from them. Yes! The best place to keep cams pre rut and post rut is on active scrapes. It will tell you a lot about who’s coming through. There’s a LOT of bucks that will visit an individual scrape. I have a scrape line on a new trail. I picked the biggest scrape and put a camera on it. All of my local bucks hit it regularly and several random bucks as well. Lots of does too. During daylight as much as night. Got me strategizing on some new ways to hunt these guys
