The use of the artic for shipping lanes is a growing thing. I think we just inked a deal with Finland to start making icebreaker ships for us.

The way nuclear missiles travel from Russia to the US is over the artic ice cap.

Greenland holds significant untapped mineral wealth, including crucial rare earth elements (REEs) like neodymium for green tech, plus substantial deposits of iron ore, graphite, uranium, titanium, copper, zinc, nickel, gold, and diamonds.

These are just a few things.

Back when Senator Seward lead the charge for us to buy Alaska from the Russians, because the Tsar needed money, people thought he was crazy too and that buying Alaska was a really stupid idea. So much so that they called it "Seward's Folly."

People all thought Thomas Jefferson was crazy to buy the Louisiana Purchase when all we really wanted the the Port of New Orleans. James Monroe was sent by Jefferson just to buy New Orleans and ended up coming back with half the damn United States of America because Napoleon need hard cash.

We both know now how crucial both of those purchases turned out for the US.
