Where’s that picture taken?
From a hunting stand
SE Kansas.
I aged him at three years old. The outfitter said he may be four years old.
I’ve hunted KS a good bit. I’d call that a two year old up there. I even covered his antlers up and looked again. He was still 2. No way he’s 4.
I’ve always hunted north central Kansas and those are some big boys up there. I've seen 1 yo deer up there bigger than that picture.
But the deer i saw in SE Kansas a couple of years ago weren't any bigger than you would see in Alabama. The day I took that picture I was covered up in deer, probably saw 8 different bucks. I had an 8 that had a bigger rack than that one at maybe 20 yards. He had tine length but zero mass. His main beams were about as thick as my finger. Probably 1, maybe 2 years old. Did see one nice mature buck that day, very wide, but not a huge deer by any means. I doubt he would score 130. Never could get a shot on him.
