Engine Light comes on our 2023 Toyota sequoia. We take it to the closest Toyota dealer. Says it needs a turbo, on the vehicle. The warranty company (through
Toyota) will be out to approve. The Warranty Company (Through toyota) doesn’t approve because the Toyota dealership hasn’t proven to them that the turbo is the issue with the 2023 Toyota Sequoia.. $9k for the turbo. Warranty company (through Toyota) recommended us to take it to another dealership to make sure of the issue…

Call Toyota corporate. Toyota generally builds a good vehicle but their warranty work is always a fight. File a claim and make them tell you why they won’t fix it. Tell them you took it to their dealer and now they don’t believe their dealer. Take out the stealership middle man. Most likely the service manager did something wrong. They have to get approval from Toyota before Toyota will cover warranty and in my experience Toyota nitpicks every little thing to try and deny.

Warranty is 5 years, or 60,000 miles isn't it?

I got the roof and hood painted on an '06 Tacoma that the warranty had been out two years or more. It helps if you fall into "loyal Toyota ownership" category .

I'd avoid Jim Bishop Toyota (if still the name of the Toyota dealer in Muscle Shoals/Tuscumbia) like the plague.

Wet Belts and Turbos and money oh no ! The vehicle has 0 issues at all… that I know of… just a message on the dash that says reduce engine power…

Have you disconnected the battery to kill the codes. If it is a hard code, it will come back on the first or second key cycle. It could be an in range failure if the performance is ok.

[/quote]yep it's looking like toyotas may not be as reliable as they claim The small displacement turbo engines have known issues. Pretty much all the Covid era engines had issues. It's not if but when. Normally aspirated engines from a few years back are pretty much bulletproof.

Given the new information (or clarity on the initial post at least) I still recommend you calling Toyota corporate. You will be assigned a case manager that will monitor progress and move things along. They don’t like a case backlog. It helped my case whenever I was fighting with them about replacing a front cv axle and transfer case.
