Somebody explain to me the fascination with suppressors on a deer rifle. They still spook game and I guess I don’t understand the need for a rifle that can be shot without hearing protection. I’ve never heard a rifle i shot at a deer and I don’t guess I shoot enough especially at deer for it to do too much damage to my ears. I may shoot twice a year without protection. And ear plugs and miffs aren’t that big of a deal to put on if the sound bothers you. Maybe I’m overlooking something


Also I know of several guys who put them in premium quality rifles and the rifles no longer shot as well as they did. I guess I’m weird I just don’t get it. Seems like a fad to me

You are damaging your ears. It'll become apparent eventually.

My ears are already shot but I'm moving to shooting more suppressed rifles. Just more pleasant to shoot and can actually aid with accuracy due to far less muzzle blast and slightly less recoil. Sometimes you just have to find a different load for the rifle because of altered barrel harmonics.

You're not limited to only using the supressor on 1 rifle. As long as the diameter is the same as designated for the can or less you can move it to another rifle

I know zero about suppressors except what I’ve seen in movies lol. How hard is it to switch them from rifle to rifle?

You screw them off one barrel and on to another one

Saying suppressors are a fad when literally today the $200 stamp just turned to $0 is incredibly dumb.

I wouldn’t call that dumb. It’s the definition of a fad. It becomes popular for because well it’s popular. Look at muzzle breaks. For several years all the cool rifles had them.

As far as my hearing I’m already deaf 20’years in a steel mill. And the fact that a stamp went from $200 to $0. Has nothing to do with dumb. That’s just righting a wrong. Should’ve never had to pay to begin with. I guess I just don’t see it. Recoil reduction is about the only thing I can see

I get it for somebody that does alot of shooting but for 90% of people that fire their rifle less than 10x a year I don’t get it.

I took a serious look at them. Almost pulled trigger with no sales tax in FL plus no $200 tax. But you still are required to register the suppressor as NFA item. Only change is no $200 tax so do you want to register an NFA item and be subject to rules? Ear plugs vs suppressor requiring me to register I will probably stick with ear plugs. I don’t need one that bad. Ya’ll get on government agency radar and be subject to search anytime because you own an NFA item.

The government already knows that you have guns if you’re concerned about confiscation because of your internet search history, credit card gun purchases and driving by Flock cameras near gun shops.

Please present one first hand story of someone having the feds randomly show up to inspect a suppressor and not a story from your uncles sisters neighbors cousin.

I’m not saying you’ve made the wrong decision for you, but using the argument of the swat trucks are going to show up on a random Tuesday at 0500 doesn’t hold water for me.

And just for clarification if somebody likes and wants one then by all means get one. I have one for a 22 and love it. But it’s truly silent. I could shoot it in my bedroom and the people in my den wouldn’t know it. I just wanted to know if there was something that I’m missing. I know several good friends that have em and they ask me all the time when I’m going to get one. But for hunting purposes FOR ME the juice ain’t worth the squeeze. I can protect my ears with ear plugs a lot cheaper than $1000 and I don’t have to tote a telephone pole in the woods. To each his own.

IF the law is followed you are factually 100% WRONG. By law the ATF can knock on your door and ask to inspect your NFA items. You can tell them to come back in 24 hours at which time they can conduct an inspection. THAT is the law. If they take any other approach, they are either overzealously in violation OR you have done something seriously wrong for them to be there in the first place.

I reckon if they ever come knocking, this is what ill do just because i can.

I don’t thinking put one on a hunting hun but there’s one waiting for me to go get for an AR. That rifle pops and hurts my left ear hearing even with axil ear buds in. I know lots of guys getting them hunting purposes
Many go titanium on hunting setups to save weight.

I bought a titanium and use it for hunting. Dont think I will ever go back.
