This is probably my favorite Christmas picture I have. December 1944. My grandparents and my dad. I believe my grandfather was on Army leave from North Africa/Italy during the holiday. I don’t remember where I was told he went after the pic. Grandfather past in 1980, grandmother in 2011.
My dad turned 83 in November.

Just wanted to share.

Thats awesome

I know it was a tougher time - but the world has gotten way too fast. I often think my dad hit it about right - early 30s to 2006

It was tougher times. And the tree is bearing the entire families burdens. smile

Times were so much simpler then.

What a family treasure .

Great picture, Jon! Those of you who have such pictures have real treasure in them.

Simpler times most definitely. Too bad we can’t and will never get back to those times.

That’s a well-composed and exposed picture. Someone knew what they were doing with their camera gear back then. Flash photography was not exactly automated. It might be neat to find out which of your family members took the picture. It’s possible your grandad did it on a tripod with some sort of timer or release, but I don’t know what they had back then. Maybe Carter will chime in, I believe he used to be a professional photographer

Thanks for sharing. Love the cedar tree. I use to love going to cut one every year for Xmas. Even remember one being cut 1 mile north of the Livingston exit off the side of the interstate 🎄😊

Had an uncle that spent all day Christmas 1944 picking up pieces of his whole unit somewhere in Europe. Only reason him and the other guy survived was because they walked to A big tree that morning to smoke. They had took refuge in an old house that night. He was a very religious man but never celebrated on that day until he died.
