I just saw a post where apparently Mississippi has gone to selling permits to hunt turkeys. So you know that we will be next and then there will be a turkey baiting permit fee also. Anyone else heard about this?x

Yes a $10 permit plus your license for three birds, way cheaper than what the Mid west is charging for one bird for a NR!

It is $100 for nonresidents.

Its a Turkey Stamp with the revenue generated being earmarked for wild turkey management. Purchasing the stamp is how hunters will get their Game Checks (e-tags) or physical tags (and associated Game Checks) if purchased in person at a license vendor. Funds cannot be used by the dept. for employee salaries or be diverted elsewhere. $10 for residents, $100 for non-residents. It replaces the former $50 turkey permit for non-residents, effectively raising the non-resident price to hunt by $50. Other states have been rolling with successful turkey stamp/permit programs for years. Florida and Wisconsin are two great examples. Arkansas implemented a voluntary stamp a few years back but the popularity has waned since it isn't required.

This has the potential to generate nearly a million dollars a year for wild turkey in Mississippi. Even much more if used to secure federal Wildlife Restoration matching funds. Really excited for it all and a huge win for Mississippi!

More fees, more regulations, more laws, more government.

If they come up with a "Research Stamp" fee for ducks or deer, hunters would lose their minds.

Frogs, pot, water, fire. Gubbermint adds the sticks and hunters say "thank you, sir, can we have another!"

I’ll give them credit where it’s due, at least they exempted lifetime license holders.

Speaking of lifetime license, I just got my over 64 lifetime hunting and fishing licenses. And I'd be more than happy to pay for a turkey tag or stamp, and see out of staters pay more than residents.

Hate to tell you but I have been buying Federal and State duck stamps for years. Prices have not gone up faster than inflation. You can actually see areas that were funded through the stamp money. I am typically of the opinion that government intrusion is a bad thing but with a resource that travels from Canada to Mexico every migration, I am OK with a little government intervention. Maybe they will bust a few more of the baiters, roost shooters and those double dipping and ignoring limits.

Don't bet on Alabama exempting anyone , including the landowner.

When u give an inch they the government will take a mile just remember this when it comes to deer or turkey. We are the answer to the resource not asking for more rules just go by the ones we already have it’s not rocket science. Take u a deer or 2 and take u a turkey or 2 then look forward to next year then get on the pontoon and have fun and wait for fall rinse and repeat

I've bought ducks stamps for 40+ years. They've helped in many ways for 80+ years.

If duck hunters had to buy a license, and maybe WMA permit, and state-fed stamps, along with having to shoot non-tox shot (also BS), and then buy another "duck research" stamp as well, that would be BS.


Turkeys don't migrate. Charging for a hunting license and then a turkey permit, and then a "research" stamp, is BS. But it won't be surprising if this becomes normal among other states.
