Why are the doe harvest numbers down so much?? Doesnt seem like it would be that hard for someone to kill a doe if they wanted one

Harold I know ppl who are not seeing deer, who are literally covered up in deer. I really don’t understand people’s reluctance to accept this. History repeats itself over and over. Every time we have a mast year, harvest decreases. Not sometimes. Not most of the time. Every single time. This mast crop was not a typical mast crop. It was exceptional. And it followed a wet spring and summer. Deer were already in great physical shape. Great spring/summer, ridiculous acorn crop, warm weather during peak hunting days/weekends. It’s a recipe that’s perfect for what we are seeing. I actually said it before season even arrived. This year is going to be incredibly difficult for hunters and incredibly beneficial if you’re a deer hoping to survive.

You know people that are covered up in deer that want to shoot a doe but cant see one??

I don’t disagree about harvest fluctuating with acorns but I think the dynamics of what’s occurring is a little different in a lot of areas than I believe you have pictured……For example, I don’t think the reason why areas like Marshall, Etowah, St. Clair, etc are down so much is because everyone is covered up with deer and just cant see them……The reason those areas are down is because the remaining deer leftover from the heavy harvests are concentrated and arent spread out across chit loads of different small parcels right now…..You’re right that some people arent seeing them but its because they arent there for them to see this year……They arent coming to the corn pile in the back of paw paw’s cow pasture this year for a lot of folks.....

Don’t doubt the power of acorns. Nothing else is going on lol.

Corn consumption is down everywhere I’ve been and every hunter I’ve talked to. Had one farmer who sells corn say his sales are down 91% from this time last year.
I've seen corn dumped on the ground start sprouting when a preferred food source like acorns or standing beans was available.

There are parts of Marshall, Etowah and St Clair that simply can’t sustain a season like what they are provided and maintain a deer herd. I don’t disagree with you on that at all.

Bad data isn’t a good indicator for anything accurate. That’s why it’s going to take time to see if all the deer are wiped out of if there are any left.
