Easy….EHD. It was bad this summer.
I made a post late in the summer about all the dead deer I was finding in west Hale east Greene county area.
How many did you find, and on what acreage?
Three on about 25 acres and four more on some public land on the river all at one time , neighbors saw some around the same time on their places. I found it odd that coyotes and other scavengers didn’t seem to get on them really. One yearling buck carcass I watched rot away into nothing without really being touched. This happened the last week of August, and also take into account that I don’t live there and I am gone for long stretches of time.

I am still seeing a decent amount of deer on the hoof and have noticed they seem to be preferring the red oaks(water) over the big white oaks for some reason.

Same here in North Limestone County. Worst year ever for deer sightings during season. Before season it was normal traffic on camera.

Limestone Co has had a 50% increase in buck harvest over the last 5 years………

I have a cell camera on a feeder, very little action and hardly any bucks. I have a camera 200 yards away in the woods on a creek where I can see what goes up and down it, 2-3 nice bucks and 2-3 scrub bucks. This is just one example I’ve seen (on me).

Talked to a guy that had camera on an oak patch and it quit sending deer pics.
He went in and looked and there wasn’t many acorns left. Moved camera to another oak patch and there they were. It’s grown up cow pastures. He hunts with some greenfields amongst the thickets and oak patches
It’s ideal habitat

I did hear of a few dead deer being found August/September but nothing out of the ordinary
Kinda learn things hanging around hunting shops

Boathand,

I haven’t heard of anyone else reporting multiple dead deer in that area. The state tries to keep up with reports each year to monitor EHD. Did you report it to them? I have a few landowners in Greene, Sumter and Tuscaloosa counties. They didn’t report any this year, but EHD kills deer every year.

I believe this is where they're all hanging out...My semi rig driving nephew reports he's seeing deer all along the interstates and high ways along his routes at night.... I see them quite a bit from I-10 around the Wilcox exit and beyond headed west..

Deer don’t disappear (die) on the scale ppl are wondering about without notice. Even small scale impacts are noticed by landowners and hunters.

Your deer are fine. They are there. You’ll not believe me or anyone else when we say this until season is over, and the deer magically return, but I promise you, the deer are there and doing very well. The setup this year screamed success for deer and frustration from hunters, long before season even opened. You’re not seeing deer because they’re in superb physical condition. Deer don’t move unless they need to or have to. Neither applies right now. They are moving when and where they want to go based on hunting pressure and local habitat conditions.

Common sense like this don’t go very far with these conspiracy theories. Nothing changed except deer gonna be fatter and bigger bucks next yr because folks don’t know to hunt the acorns this yr .

If we were actually using common sense then we would include the fact that "we shot way more of them" when wondering where the deer went.....That's getting conveniently ignored by many though

Keep on beating that dead horse!! You need to use all that energy on the people in your area that’s killing all these deer. I can promise if you pound them with your beliefs like you do on here, they will all stop shooting deer just so they don’t have to listen to you anymore. Hell I’m starting to feel guilty about the 2 I killed in Alabama. Bout convince myself not to shoot a buck. It might be the last one in the state.

They didn’t get shot between August and early November. 😂

Harold, I’ve struggled all season to get does on camera and today the flood gates opened. I had dozens of does this afternoon I haven’t seen all season.

You might want to go shoot a few.....A lot of counties fell another -5% behind just this week......I'll post the new maps on Tues

Mine have dropped dramatically in two places but they are still alive just doing different things. How do I know nobody shoots does at either place. I’ve tried to get them to shoot does instead of small bucks. Hasn’t worked out yet.

slap

"Why do you ask"?

Too many people spend money they don't have , on things they don't need, to impress people they don't know.
