That's the truth....DO NOT, under any circumstances, leave batteries in one for a few months, during the offseason, etc. If it isn't being used regularly, just take them out. I almost ruined my favorite Black Diamond headlamp due to corroding batteries. Fortunately I caught it early, got them out, and was able to clean the contacts with vinegar and a tiny piece of sandpaper. But, much longer and it would've been trashed

That’s weird. I often leave batteries in cameras for several months and flashlights for a couple of years with no issues. I only use Duracell batteries cause I seem to get better service from them than anything. I tried lithium batteries and have found them to not be worth the extra expense.
