What we are witnessing is a grown man acting like he’s got his head stuck so far up his ass he can see what he had for breakfast this morning. If you go back in every one of your “ALL THE DEER IN ALABAMA HAVE BEEN KILLED” threads you will see that Matt has agreed in every one of the that there are areas that do have low population issues. He also stated more times than I care to count that there are also areas that are still overpopulated. It’s no one’s else’s fault you have poor comprehension skills and rather accuse someone of having an agenda because they have a job to do. I’m not sure what your occupation is but if you work for someone, you kinda have to do want they want. Matt provides a service to people just like you do when you track. Thanks, but yeah I don’t need defending. Harold and I agree on more than he realizes. I’m actually at odds with a pretty high percentage of hunters over what I feel like is best for the resource in this state. And that’s fine. Im not mad at anybody over it. I think it’s silly and ignorant to call ppl communist because they want the resource to benefit. Deer need to win at times instead of being on the losing end of our selfish desires. Still can’t wrap my mind around that.I fought against the Feb extension in areas it wasn’t justified (most of north AL). I was not in favor of legalized baiting and I hate cell cams. I say that, and I use them 12 months out of the year for surveys, inventory, and observations. Yet, I would toss them in the trash tonight if I knew they were prohibited starting at 6 am tomorrow morning. Some ppl have a hard time understanding what I have against them. It’s not necessarily the camera itself. It’s the THREE things I just mentioned collectively. Are cameras bad? No. They’re great tools! Is baiting bad? Not necessarily. If done improperly it can be. Is hunting in February bad? No, in areas hunters need the opportunity to hunt their peak of breeding. Those three combined have absolutely RUINED some areas of the state (YES Harold!!). Harold, you want to find something interesting in what I have to say? I have clients who can not grow a single deer to 4 years of age EVER. They don’t exist. Why? Modern technology in hunting and current game regs. That’s why. Large landowners mind you. Baiting on every nearby parcel has created that. That was my fear. Now some argue I’m a proponent of trophy hunting because I feel that way. No I’m not. I’m a proponent of having a balanced deer herd for ALL users to enjoy. It’s becoming harder for people to enjoy hunting when what they’re after don’t exist. Before cameras and corn, people still baited, yes. They sure did. Not openly on the scale as it is now. Also, didn’t have real time observations pinging our cell phones. Deer harvest used to be random. Now it’s HIGHLY selective. Kill the best, leave the rest. It leads to high grading, poor age structure and a terrible imbalance in sex ratios. So Harold, we do agree that is a problem in areas, and specifically, east AL. It is not widespread over other areas of the state however. It’s localized.
