Recommended a processor that can make some sausage? As stated, Shelby, Bibb or Tuscaloosa counties preferable as I live in Alabaster. TIA

Go to South’s finest if you want premium hairy meat. ^This. When they started out, they were awesome with great prices. After a few years I quit going because 1) Their prices went way up, and 2) It stunk BAD. A processor should NOT smell like rotting flesh. The last deer we had processed there smelled so bad when we cooked it, I threw it out.

I cant speak to quality, but i dropped one off there for a friend this year, he wanted 10# summer sausage and the rest of the deer ground. It was over $250. That same deer at hornes and hooves would be maybe $150

It was just for normal ground, cube steaks, whole tenderloins and a stick of summer sausage, I thought it was outrageously price and it was the last time I went there.

Horns and Hooves is good for basic cuts, summer sausage is pretty good dont care for their snack sticks.

Sounds like Souths Finest is living off their initial reputation but has gone to shit. They made great ground venison mixed with fat and sausage when they first opened. Last deer i had processed there a few years ago had bone fragments in the ground meat. And I ain't dropping a deer off at a stanky processor. $240 to process a deer?!? Frak that.

Next time you get one, you can let me know and I'll help ya out on that processor fee 🤣😂 grandpaw can't hunt anymore and that's all they eat. And I'm having to give them all my deer meat 🤣

Kevin charges $15 for a 3 pound log..... which is NORMAL price.... i want to know where you get your math from because i was told 10x15 is 150.....add $100 for processing fee, you are at $250? Right?

Horns and Hooves is good for basic cuts, summer sausage is pretty good dont care for their snack sticks. You haven't had them hot out of the smoker 😉😉. ..Kevin's got the best snack sticks IMO. Now i do wish that they were like Stump Hollpw's in Gboro because theirs are like slim jims. But Horns and Hoove's taste better to me.

Numbers may not be exact I was referring to a basic cuts plus 10# of summer sausage so $100 + 45ish but the point I was making is places like hornes and hooves is way more affordable than a place like souths finest. I had kevin do one last year all basic cuts, it was $100 OTD, been awhile since i got summer sausage and snack stick from him. Everybody has their opinions, i dont care for his style snack stick, but overall they do a really good job on processing. Stump Hollow was my go to growing up, miss their summer sausage and jerky.
