Of course they haven't; it's unenforceable and that was one of the reasons I was against it. I've never heard of anyone being prosecuted for exceeding the season limit on deer or turkeys. They get people for paperwork problems, but never for actually exceeding the limit. I hate unenforceable laws. Only the suckers like me will follow them.
Still, the buck limit had a big effect on the deer harvest. We were killing about 50-50 does/bucks with a few more does. The first year the buck numbers went way down and the doe numbers way up. Since then it has gradually equalized so that we now kill more bucks again, but the overall number of deer killed is way down.
So how are the hunters or the deer any better off than they were before? And yet people believe even more regulations are the answer? It looks to me like we were far better off with the old system, but no chance of going back to it. The dcnr is making too much money to change it back. I disagree about it being unenforceable…….Sure there will never be any rule that gets 100% compliance but other states are able to do a way better job at minimizing the number of folks shooting over the limit than we do……Just because a few will still get away with it is not a reason to do nothing We have far less deer than we used to because everyone has bought into the idea of shooting a bunch of does…..If folks would stop then populations would grow again We as in you may have far less deer than you used to. Some of us in a totally different part of the state are seeing far more deer than we’ve ever seen. Does this mean we are going to kill more than we ever have. Probably not because we have no need to. We have a self imposed limit on our place and some of my guys still won’t even shoot a deer because they killed what they wanted elsewhere and is only hunting a buck of certain size. So because you have a problem, don’t try to push it on everyone else.
