Back on track, many claimed that those wanting the 3 buck limit wanted bigger bucks and was the only reason. I always stated that would be the last part of it. The biggest thing for me was a more balanced deer herd with closer buck to doe ratios. At or below carrying capacity keeps the herd healthier and less impacted by disease. The rut becomes more concentrated and mature bucks a less likely to die from the stresses of the rut. The short term hopefully would translate into bigger bucks but it’d take time.

The biggest thing for me was folks would quit killing all those 1.5 yr olds. I knew guys liking 15-20 of them and giving them all away. Honestly I don’t think dropping to 2 buck limit will accomplish anything that hasn’t already been accomplished. Folks still gonna outlaw if they do. Even with tags there’s work arounds. I knew a guy in arkie that killed 25-30 bucks a year. He’d simply buy license for family members and use their tags. Yeah he bought the license but still those family members would never kill a deer except maybe with their car.
