Caliber and bullet performance but the main thing is shot placement in the shoulder. Most shots I tried to take out the far shoulder seemed to work well. The 7mm STW 140gr BT they’d pile up right there along with the 300wsm 150gr accubond. The 257 Weatherby 115 BT they run a few yards but that was it.

Put a deeper penetrating bullets like scirocco or partition and they’d run a good piece. Hunting cutover I didn’t want them going off into the bottom. Didn’t take long to learn which bullet to use

The biggest biggy, practice, practice and more practice. I used to shoot across ridges at the club during the summer. Used shooting sticks and so forth like I used while hunting.

I’m wanting to kill one with my AR so I’m working up a 5.56 load with a Barnes tsx 62 or 70 gr.
I know it’ll run a ways so I’ll have to chose where I hunt.
