That's the key question. If it's your road and yours alone, then put a gate on it and lock it. Whoever else wants to use it will have to ask you then. I've let loggers use my roads many times, but they always had to ask because of the locked gate. You had better deal with the timber buyer, whoever that is. Once the loggers have access, they will do whatever they want to do to get the wood out.

Game cameras hidden along the road would be beneficial. Sorry you to have to deal with anyone on your property without permission!

It's on the To-Do list, with the steel at the barn to build a gate for it and 4 others. No one uses the road (legally) but me and my family. I haven't made gating this road a priority because a 2024 tornado dropped a large tree across the road just off the pavement. I put a camera on it yesterday and will post it this evening. I'm going to put a cable across it this weekend until I can get the gate built.

Too many variables to answer your question with 100% accuracy. I have a de-commissioned county road (dirt) that runs through my property and there are three landowners behind me. One is a timber company, one is a investment fund and one is a private landowner. All three manage their properties for timber. Each should be required to ask permission for any agents, contractors, timber crews, etc to traverse my property. If I catch them, they are asked to leave until we work out an arrangement. If they are conducting forestry practices on the property, I get a formal access agreement signed with a bond to repair the road. It also stipulates that the gate must be closed everyday at the end of the day and that ZERO trucks or equipment be parked on my property. The communication breakdown from the managing forester to the actual onsite crews shows up real quick or the onsite crews don't give a damn. I'll get down and find trailers blocking my road, gate left open, trash dumped where they ate lunch, etc. They are given two hours to move equipment and clean up or they will be trespassed from the property. My agreement states that if they violate any terms their access will be terminated. I have a decent relationship with the foresters that manage that property, so its usually a smooth process....until its not.
Gray areas in what is allowed and not allowed will always lead to problems in situations like this.

If you can help it, do not let logging crews use the road. You will land up mad, and still fixing your own roads. They will try to use a skidder to fix it and leave. Not good at the end of the day! Been there

Posted signs and camera are up. Cable is up in lieu of a gate until I can fab gate and get a tractor there for the posts. I go to work and get off work in the dark. Saturday is the only day I can do much. This Saturday is our family Christmas. I hope to walk the road in the morning to see how far back the flagging goes.
