Everybody has been griping all season about not having deer on their cameras and feeders. I’ve been seeing plenty of deer. Killed plenty of deer. It’s because I got out there and hunted. Yep.....it obviously has nothing to do with you hunting the best land. CNC, I’ve always killed deer regardless of where I hunted. Small properties, large properties, managed, not managed. There’s a lot of pressure around most everything I hunt. I don’t have a Utopia like you think. Is it good? Yeah I’d say above average. It’s taken a whole heck of a lot of work, sweat, money and effort. It certainly ain’t free. Regardless, we still deal with the same things everybody else does. Poaching, road hunting, ppl killing bucks we let walk every year (which is fine). I don’t get upset about it. It’s life. Your comments and perceptions come across as really bias…..For example, ^^^^^ its as if everyone else just isnt killing deer because they arent the same caliber of hunter and nothing to do with the fact that most everyone else is hunting a fraction of the quality……Its like you’re standing on a hill speaking down to the rest of the crowd with no clue you’re standing on a hill…..Its the same thing that folks didn’t like Chuck for doing…….Being surrounded by the top 5-10% Alabama has to offer and speaking down to everyone else as if we’re all playing the game on the same footing……Meanwhile at least 2/3’s of the counties are in decline Ok Harold. What I said has nothing to do with the quality of what ppl have to hunt. It has to do with the fact most hunters keep doing the same things repeatedly expecting different results. The same ppl kill deer in good years and bad. They adapt. They change. They figure it out. Quality don’t matter. Public vs private don’t matter. They get it done. The only hill I’m standing on is this one “Stop doing the same thing and complaining about the same results. Do something different.”

The whole part about the time, work, money, and effort to improve the habitat went in one ear and out the other. And I'd about be willing to bet that Matt is a better deer hunter than most. After all, this is what he does for a living.

No, not if they can’t enforce it. I’ve deer hunted here most of my life, only GW I’ve ever encountered deer hunting was at a WMA check station or on the side of the road in a NF. That being said, tags and check stations might be the way to slow down the outlaws, if The Man can’t get to you, you go to him. But that won’t help improve the habitat. Like others have said, it’s not hard to kill all the deer you want to in Alabama, it’s not letting them live longer that hurts us most.

My brother and I are the only ones in our group that will get out in the woods and find spots to hunt. We also were the only 2 that turkey hunted our place when we had turkeys. This is where we learned a lot about the deer on our place. It’s because we covered dang near every inch of that place. I know where every trail is that crosses a road, creek bottom, clear cut, hill, and even the trails where they skirt around the camp yard. The deer follow the same main trails today as they did 15yrs ago when we got the place. I’m nowhere near bragging on myself because I am guilty of being lazy the last couple years. But I got to thinking that all the good bucks I killed were when I hunted away from our regular stands and plots. All the other guys hunt the corn piles and plots religiously and on occasion kill a decent buck. It makes them happy and I’m good with that. I’m glad that’s the way they like to hunt because it leaves probably 70% of the property for me to hunt the way I want. Another thing is if the wind isn’t right for a particular stand or corn pile, they won’t hunt. They will sit at the camp before they go somewhere else where the wind is good because there is no corn there. My shooting stick and folding chair stays on my 4 wheeler. I have little honey hole spots for every wind. I have early season spots and spots I don’t step foot in till late January. I know where every oak tree is on the place and where the main trails are where the deer come from the oak stands on the neighbors property. It’s just not fun sitting there watching a corn pile or grass grow for me. It’s more work for me when I do kill one because unless my brother is there, I get the deer out by myself. I grew up hunting main deer trails in the marsh and it took me a couple years to realize that whether is marsh or pine plantation, a whitetail deer is a whitetail deer. If you hunt where whitetail deer are and where they want to be, you can kill them. I’m fired up for this January. I’m challenging myself to stick to my guns and try to kill a good one old school with Dad’s old 30-30.

No one can blood trail a deer anymore. They have to call someone with a dog. Then that someone with a dog all the sudden thinks they’re a wildlife biologist and all knowing guru about anything to do with whitetail deer.

If they dont drop where they stand they're dead within 20-50 yards. Did back slap one three years ago though he was still alive the next day when we brought in a dog. Other than that I haven't blood trailed a deer in 10+ years.

However, we all have to wade through this crap you post to get to it. You do realize you might fall off that hill you’re standing on while talking down to the majority yourself bud.

A phrase comes to mind with the above argument. You can’t kill em if they aren’t there.

You trophy hunters are going to get things to the point that I quit even buying a license. I don't have to buy a license now because I hunt my own private property. I also game check every deer that I kill and so does everyone that hunts my place. I use cameras to access the heard and I like knowing that there is a nice 10 point that usually comes through about 10 minutes behind the nice 8 point every day during early season. It keeps me from killing the 8 point. I work really hard and spend a lot of money on my place. I own it, have the deed in hand. I'm getting tired of folks (Government and other hunters) telling me how I should hunt it. My son, wife, and myself have killed our limit of bucks every year since the 3 buck rule has been implemented and we are going to continue to do so. We don't need new regs

I hunt my own property and it shouldn't be up to someone else to tell me how to hunt, and what I can kill.
