I agree……the guy that was following me on that track last year had actually bought one to use at a high fence property……He had just gotten it and was wanting to play with it following me on a track
That was a great explanation. Only thermal drone I’ve been around is our Dept. drones. We used them to try to find a missing boater one night. It was crazy the amount of deer and other critters we saw that night. I told them then that it would be a valuable tool to locate unfounded deer but would be and expensive way to find them. I wasn’t very long after that that I started seeing all the videos on people using them. However I don’t think it will replace a good tracking dogs nose.
It's hard to kiss the lips at night that chews your a$$ all day long.
We been fussing about tracking dogs for many years now . .I don't see tracking going away it might have limits . I do believe baying and catching dogs will be banned . From what I've seen it really don't take much of a dog to trail one . You just got to find one that has trailing in him
Hell I had a 10lb Chihuahua that would blood trail but he was as rare as hens teeth

I called in a tracker a couple years ago and they had a Dauchsand.
I’m surprised someone from Mississippi hasn’t chimed in. I was told by a customer of mine that hunts some in Mississippi. If a dog finds or bays a deer that is alive, you cannot shoot or kill the deer for 24 hours. Sounds crazy but that’s what he said. He also said that if caught killing the animal immediately, before 24 hours, he or she will loose there hunting rights for either one or three years. This may not be true, but this is how he explained it to me. If it is true, doesn’t make sense to have to wait for 24 hours to put the deer out of it’s misery.

I don’t think that’s correct……Mississippi actually allows for deer to be legally tracked and dispatched at night……I think you’ll see Alabama follow suite before long…..I just wish they would leave the part out about having to do it with a handgun…..I cant hit chit with one……
Sometime it could work against the shooter to run the dog a mile away and not recover it. Where as if it stayed nearby and still was alive there may be a chance for a second shot nearby. I have seen dogs get a deer up and run almost into the next county. In a lot of cases nobody would see the deer.
And many, many times that deer is on camera back where it was shot in the next day or 2.
Unless he get's caught chasing the ladies a mile way instead of his local ladies. Sometimes those out of towners catch his attention.

Happened to me one time a couple times when I traveled for work
I want a thermal drone, for my own use, deer surveys, education, entertainment and such. The only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet is because the Feds are trying to ban DJI drones. I think come Dec 23rd they will be automatically banned. At least any new drone that DJI were to come out with. You can still purchase the drones that are already approved by the FCC but they are getting scarce and are at ridiculous prices. People have been having trouble even getting those through the ports and sometimes are being held for months. Things eventually tear up; batteries and propellers go bad and once the current stock is bought up. You won't be able to import any of those parts legally. Also, the FCC voted to give themselves the power to retroactively ban those DJI products that are currently approved.
This is not just DJI drones but all DJI products. There is no other USA product that comes close to DJI, none of them cater to the public anyway. I do not believe they are a national security threat, if so then all the DJI drones currently operating would be a threat. It's nothing more than political and since everyone is complaining about DJT, this is my only complaint. His own son is in on it.
You'll see lots of videos about this subject but here's DJI themselves.
Romans 8:1-2 "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, for the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of Sin and Death"
So everything that’s out there right now is about to become worthless once it needs a new parts?? That’s sort of a raw deal for anyone that’s already bought one…..You wont even be able to resale them used
…..I just wish they would leave the part out about having to do it with a handgun…..I cant hit chit with one……
In all seriousness……I really do wish they would leave this part out…^^^^^ ..Its not needed and doesn’t really serve any purpose. Whether I have a .45 in my hand or my 30-30 on my back it doesn’t change anything about what I’m doing other than my accuracy and efficiency of putting the animal down……It’s the same maimed up deer standing 30-40 yards away in a creek and me either rounding off multiple shots from a .45 likely having to run 100 yards and do it again because deer can tote a .45 round…….or firing one shot from a 30-30 and it being done……When you actually get out there in the field doing these things some of this stuff folks come up with doesn’t make functional sense……like why I am sitting here slinging pistol rounds at this deer??
I believe the rational for pistols is that it is less likely that someone would be hunting deer at night with one and claiming they were tracking. You would be surprised how accurate you can be woth a 10MM and a red dot sight.

I hear you but I think its attempting to find a solution to something where there isnt a problem to solve………Most poachers in this day and age arent out roaming the woods with lights and dogs….. I don’t think allowing trackers to carry any weapon during gun season is the loophole that’s going to allow poachers to suddenly roam free…… Michigan allows their trackers to carry a rifle when its in season and a pistol during bow season and it seems to work……That makes the most functional sense…….There typically aren't a whole lot of bay situations during bow season anyways

Still a lot of unknowns right now to be sure, but that's why I've held up and not purchased one.

I’ll throw this out there again too…..I haven’t shot any with a 10mm but I’ve shot quite a few with a .45 and they will tote that chit off like Tony Montana if you don’t hit them just right……I walked up to a 1 ½ old buck one time that was laying on its belly facing away from me and shot it right down through the back between the shoulder blades……. only to have it jump up and take off and have to be bayed again……I remember another one I had to chase around in a hundred-yard circle and put three rounds in it before it went down……

Here’s another way of trying to explain it……..How do most poaching cases go down where someone is caught and arrested??......I’m guessing its one of two situations……1) Its either folks caught road hunting……or 2) Its folks who are caught night hunting through surveillance and the GW’s observing it taking place……..It probably doesn’t involve a whole lot of cases where a GW just randomly comes across folks out night hunting who can now claim to just be tracking a deer……There’s likely more to it than that in most situations…..Putting that pistol restriction in there isnt really solving any problems….. its just restricting folks for no reason

so MS requires they be dispatched with a handgun? That’s some stupid chit
If dog trackers can use their dog to track a deer that’s not dead, bay it, “dispatch” it, after legal shooting hours, and log it under the original gunmans game check….i don’t see a problem with someone running a deer with a dog, THAT CAN AND WILL, keep his dog on permitted property…
I’m all for trackers, I love to see dogs work in any area of hunting, any species. Especially when they are very good at what they do.. just lots of grey areas in there…
