I believe the rational for pistols is that it is less likely that someone would be hunting deer at night with one and claiming they were tracking. You would be surprised how accurate you can be woth a 10MM and a red dot sight. I hear you but I think its attempting to find a solution to something where there isnt a problem to solve………Most poachers in this day and age arent out roaming the woods with lights and dogs….. I don’t think allowing trackers to carry any weapon during gun season is the loophole that’s going to allow poachers to suddenly roam free…… Michigan allows their trackers to carry a rifle when its in season and a pistol during bow season and it seems to work……That makes the most functional sense…….There typically aren't a whole lot of bay situations during bow season anyways
