I have repeatedly said I don't want for nothing. And it's True. I continue to get things I don't need or want or will ever use. If you have to get me something, cash. I can use it how I need.

But Christmas giving should be for kids. When you're older the getting is less important than the giving. I could go all day Christmas and not get a single gift and be perfectly ok. But I love watching the children enjoy the day.

And I'm so blessed to have a grown son and get to do it all over again with my 7yo adopted daughter. I can tell she's putting things together about Santa. It's short lived. But I've enjoyed the hell out of it.

I have a good friend who was Santa for my son 25 years ago. He's also Santa for my daughter. Some of my favorite Christmas memories come from his visits. AND, when behavior is bad, he's a phone call away.

Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.
