I’ve shot Hornady 139gr. SSTs for years. Killed a lot of deer with them and I’ve never been disappointed with the end result. I can only think of one that got out of my sight after being shot and he went down 75 yards away. Most of the rest of them never took a step after the shot. Inside of 50 yards you usually will not get a complete pass thru as the bullet expands violently and fragments. What’s left of the bullet will be stuck under the hide on the opposite side. At longer ranges and slower impact velocities they expand a little slower and you’ll get complete pass throughs and good blood trails. The lack of complete pass throughs used to bother me a little, and I considered changing ammo but all of the deer shot at close range, dropped instantly. Good blood trails are not as important if there isn’t any trailing needed.
