My dad and I purchased 2 extremely nice shooting houses from Yoder’s woodwork Falkville, and for some reason I thought they made and sold enough of them that they’d have the construction worked out, wrong. The windows are waaay too low, and you have to stoop down to see anything from them. What would be the optimal height for the windows? I’ve got to move them up, most definitely. Thanks in advance, Robinhedd

well - when i built my house, i put the chair inside it & took my gun & aimed & then had another person with a tape measure record the distance from the floor to my gun … i also took my bow inside & measured it too
🤷🏻♂️ worked for me - ended up being about 3’ to the bottom of the window (if i remember correctly)

I’m the ones I built and sold were around 40-42” tall from what I remember. I have a few of the stump brand boxes and there windows are too low at the bottom. No problem seeing but not tall enough to rest your gun on. I bought two of the vice stile tripod to hold the gun at a correct level. Works great now.

This is what I’ve done a few times, because I’ll move them and need the windows lower or higher. Figure what height you want the bottom of your window to be, cut that many inches out from the top of your window and move it to the bottom of the window and patch it in place. Then put a 2x4 across the top of the window to brace the top. Then if you want to return the window to the original design just reverse the process. Works for me.

Thanks in advance, Robinhedd I've built a lot of shooting houses and have found that my magic number is 41".
