I go violently sick one time after eating at Appleby's over 20 years ago. It wasn't the restaurant, it was some kind of bug, but to this day, I still can't eat at Appleby's.

Same for me, except it was Krystal. My ex-wife and I both got sick. Still to this day, never had the taste for them ever again.

I would really be curious as to know how many people have gotten sick at a regular sit down restaurant as compared to a buffet. I personally like Golden Corral. But with that being said I want to be there as soon as they open and get to the utensils before they have been handled by a hundred people. I can honestly say I’ve never had what I believe to be food poisoning from any restaurant. The last time I got sick was years ago when we still used water coolers on the job site. This was in the early Mexican days. And they would open the lids and get ice out with their hands. I was coming home from Birmingham and it hit me in the interstate. I was hurting breaking out into a sweat and praying I could make it to an exit. Since that day I’ve never drank out of a cooler again.

On the buffet note there is one in Fort Payne. I think it’s Cattle stampede or something like that. It’s very and clean looking people working it. Golden Corral when the Pros come in is what amazes me. Entire family units that are morbidly obese and they fill three plates before they even start to eat. And it’s usually a generational thing from grandparents on down.

I see that too. We saw a few of those families at the Troy Buffet last night and we see them every time we have ever been to a buffet.

It's almost like eating is a family "sport" or something. For a guy like me, who is very much into fitness, it is saddening to see. I really feel for the kids, because they are not being taught healthy limits.

I mean, I can go into a buffet or Italian restaurant like Provino's and put away some serious groceries like I'm a professional eater, but the next morning I'm in the gym squatting 230# for 20 continuous reps. So my calories are getting burned off or turned into some muscle. I'm at a point to where I can pretty much eat anything I want and stay at about 205 - 220 pounds and 13 - 14% body fat.

Generally the customers in these establishments absolutely destroy any appetite I had when entering. I can't eat with a family of 300lb hogs rooting in their plates across from me. And this is from a guy who had no problem sitting on a dead VC in a flooded rice paddy to keep his ass dry while eating a can of beanie weenies.

I love a good country cooking buffet. Never been sick from one.. A few of my favorites are:

Mama Ree's in Childersburg/Sylacauga
Martha's Place in Montgomery
A&G' Roadkill Cafe in Elberta
It Don't Matter Family Restaurant in Highland Home
M&J Home Cooking in Anniston

I've been to many others in small towns all over the state, just can't remember the names.

I've had major food poisoning twice.
1. Leo and Suzzie's Green Top BBQ
2. Perry's Steakhouse
Never been sicker...threw up so hard for so long that I burst blood vessels in my eyeballs, face, forehead and neck.
