![[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]](https://i.postimg.cc/DwSfWnn9/20251129-170427.jpg) That doe on the upper part of the photo was shot at 300 yards with a hornady 150 grain eldx in 7-08. That's a tennis ball size exit hole. The doe on the lower part of the photo was shot with a 257 Wby mag 100 grain ttsx at 80 yards.same size exit hole. I've shot 200 plus pound buck with that same load in the 7-08 at 50 yards. Same result. They have best in class BC and are extremely accurate. On game performance is pretty impressive too. There are a lot great factory loads for the 7-08 out there.

I think Remington offered the 120 hollowpoint in original ammo when the 7/08 came out. If that's what Bar 7 has it'll be fine for deer. Always felt the 139 140s were just about perfect for Remington's "little" 7.

I use 140gr. Sierra GameKings in mine. They have performed great on deer so far.

140 Accubonds and 120ttsx's are all the 7mm-08 ammo you'll ever need. Ive never saw a rifle that wouldn't shoot one or both of them great. And they're a really good performing bullet. Ive always shot shoulders with them and I don't recall ever having one not pass through

Max Point Blank Range
120 Grain = 287 yds. 140 Grain = 285 yds.
My suggestion.... At least try to harness a 4th grade level in the understanding of ballistics.

And just for more 411. When buying that youth 7-08 for my son way back when, I did a good bit of research. I was considering either .243 or 7-08. All my delving into that came down to both being excellent calibers but what tipped the scales was the info that the 7-08 was a little more forgiving if the shot was off a little bit. For a kid’s first rifle, that was a little more reassuring. He never missed his mark with that gun and several deer died. He’s grown now and uses a Rem. CDL .270 but that little synthetic Model 7 is still a special little gun.

Only thing wrong with a Model Seven 7mm08 is the bolt handle is backwards.

I’ve shot Hornady 139gr. SSTs for years. Killed a lot of deer with them and I’ve never been disappointed with the end result. I can only think of one that got out of my sight after being shot and he went down 75 yards away. Most of the rest of them never took a step after the shot. Inside of 50 yards you usually will not get a complete pass thru as the bullet expands violently and fragments. What’s left of the bullet will be stuck under the hide on the opposite side. At longer ranges and slower impact velocities they expand a little slower and you’ll get complete pass throughs and good blood trails. The lack of complete pass throughs used to bother me a little, and I considered changing ammo but all of the deer shot at close range, dropped instantly. Good blood trails are not as important if there isn’t any trailing needed.

What about hornady custom lite 120 grain SST? It is a reduced recoil load. Would this be good? Any one have real world experience?

My wife uses the 125gr Hornady managed recoil in 308, similar sst bullets. They’ve killed every deer she’s hit with it. You won’t always get an exit but they tear them up inside. Recoil is significantly less than standard ammo imo.
