I hunt 300 acres in the MS delta. This year I have seen zero does with a fawn or yearling. I also have 2 cameras running and no pics of a doe and yearling. I have hunted this place for 12 years and I've never seen this before. We have coyotes, but I wouldnt think they could kill every fawn that was born. Any ideas why we have no offspring this year?

Especially given the extreme flooding in April that also happened. Probably severely stressed the does carrying fawns at the time leading to lower live birth rates.

Flooding can be very detrimental to fawn recruitment there. I bet that is your culprit. I’ve seen it before inside the levy.

Sounds like a year setback for your place in Louisiana. Maybe recruitment will be better next year.

This place does not flood. So it has to be something else

Is it possible that it had just one single flood event between May and July?

Something may have changed with the coyote dynamics around your spot and you have a new individual coyote or pack that’s more aggressive than the average when it comes to killing fawns………and/or it could be a change in the local fawning cover

Keep in mind we’re talking about 300 acres so it could well just be a very localized change

We are experiencing the same thing in Clarke County. I have 1 doe with a fawn and that is the only I seen or have pics of. Talked with the neighbors and they are saying the same thing. Between us that is about 4K acres.

My place in Sumter county is the same way. Only thing is I have been running cameras all year and I know a lot of the does had fawns with them and after getting raided by coyotes now the same does coming to the same food plots don’t have any. This place is over ran with coyotes and hogs so I feel like that is my biggest problem.

What part of Sumter you in

We have a ton of them. A ton of twins too. We had some born very late but almost every doe I’ve seen this year has had a fawn with it. We have even seen some twin fawns that barely lost their spots with no mama. I wonder what happened to their mama…

I don't have a lot of fawns this year either. I do have a lot of very young does. Deer that were sub 80 lbs in the spring. On the one hunt I have been on, I saw 9 does and there was one fawn.

From what I can tell from my cameras, I have a verified 3-4 different fawns. I definitely have coyotes, but nothing that appears abnormal.

This is a new to me place and the nutrition was basically nonexistent. It will take some time to reverse that and get the herd health in check.

had a club I hunted in Sumter about 10 years ago just north of York. For 2 years I never saw a fawn. At dark you would hear 3-4 groups of coyotes cutting up. I’m convinced they were wiping out the fawns

I got the opposite problem. Lots of does and yearlings but very low on rack buck sightings.

where in clarke county? i left my place up there due to the deer population going to hell.

We are covered up with fawns and yearlings. Very few does seen last week didn’t have fawn/yearlings with them. Lots of twin fawns also this season. One thing I noticed is we have 2 age class of fawns. A group that looks like they just lost their spots and are small. Another group that’s a little bigger and would have lost their spots earlier. We were still seeing fawns with spots in late October on our place. The first doe I killed was in a group of 7. 3 big does and 4 fawns/yearlings. I watched them walk across a clear cut and she always stayed behind the others. The other 2 does each had a set of twins. She was the only one of the 12 does I had seen that morning that didn’t have little ones with them. We are in great shape for younguns on our place.
