That's the duration of my adult working life in some capacity of telecom construction/supervision/engineering. Friday was my last day. Not having a job to go to this morning was a damn weird feeling! Did a LOT of traveling from 1976 up through 1994. Made it back home for good around 1995. Lived in/seen some great places and some really shitty places in the western Pacific (but the WWII shipwreck diving was off the chain!). Made some wonderful lifelong friends and a few enemies. My last gig og 7 years was my dream job and if not for some health issues and old age that's robbed me of my energy, I would have stayed longer. But, at 68 I'm tired and I'm done. May you all have the job of your dreams and take it all the way through. It's just one life. Make the best of it.

Congratulations. I retired in october. It takes some geting used to but it has its perks. Enjoy!!!

Congratulations on your career, and double congratulations on your retirement! I think being able to conduct a sustained career where you eventually achieve your goal job position, and then retire on (mostly) your terms, is a capstone achievement for a man. Something to be proud of.

Congratulations.
I've been retired for 2 years now and love it.
The hardest thing for some guys, and some gals too, is giving up something that for a lot of people has defined part of who they were for decades. I channeled a lot of that energy into doing projects, travelling and discovering new things.
i have a whole list of "Retirement Things to Do" and I haven't even scratched the surface on it yet.

In August 1993 I was sent to Truk Lagoon (Chuuk) to straighten out a mess that the superintendent had allowed to get out of control. I was there for 10 weeks and dove evrything that I could and some wrecks that I shouldn't have
