From what I've read seems like if you get a 6.5 prc in a 20 inch barrel you just as good off to get the 6.5 Creedmoor . . Course I may have it wrong

Following… I hunted with a Creedmore the last two seasons and liked it. Bought a PRC to try out this season. I’m using Barnes VOR-TX 130g. Three shots to get on paper at 50 yards, 2 shots at 100 to dial it in. Tack driver after that.

Its only about a 100fps more than a 7mm rem mag with the same weight bullet but the only reason to get a new gun is because you think it's cool and you like it

7mm mag is 40% cheaper than .280
6.5 PRC is 10% cheaper than .280
7 PRC costs 60% more than 7mm mag

The magnum and PRC rifles hold 3 cartridges versus 4 of the .280 or .280AI. The AI ammo costs 10% more than 7 PRC.

Ammunition cost is insignificant to most hunters, especially compared to the cost of rifles, scopes, binoculars, clothes, boots, trucks, fuel, ATV/UTV's, leases, plane tickets, feeders, in state/out of state hunting licenses, stands, box blinds, ad infinitum.

I buy the best/most accurate ammo I can find, and including sighting in/target practice, I average about 3-5 rounds per animal. Again, insignificant compared to all the other hunting expenses.

Ammo cost should be the last concern anyone has if they are an avid hunter.

I feel the same way about folks that say "I can't find ammo for that rifle anywhere". What they really mean is that neither their local hardware store nor their local walmarks have that caliber.

Everyone here has access to the internet, and www.ammoseek.com is ready when you are.

That's not anywhere near enough ammo for learning your rifle and keeping on top of your zero. It's a real deficiency. I always see hunters running out of ammo at the range. They'll say that's close enough when they start to run out. And then leave.

I mean, how often does your zero actually drift? Out of my three main guns I hunt with, I had the first one actually drift a zero for the first time in 10 years. Took 4 whole shots to get it re-zero’d. Rifles aren’t complicated. 90% are built off the same action.

100 more fps is preeeeetty fast if you ask me. Plus it says PRC.

I heard it don’t kick as bad and the 7 mag and the 300 mag

I’ve heard early reports that it was faster, but now factory ammo is super slow. Report back what your factory ammo chronos.

When you’re getting into the upper limits another 100 fps is significant.

When I bought my 7mm STW with a 140 gr bullet it was running 3400 fps and a 7mm REM mag as running 3200 fps

That’s only 200 fps more yet at a 100 yards it had the knockdown that the Rem mag had at the end of its barrel. Thats what was repeated on many of the reloading sites back then.

3000 fox seems to be the beginning of where things increase rapidly with regards to caliber performance
