Anybody had any dealings with this caliber? I shoot a .280 and have for about 35 years. I'm thinking about a new gun for next year and seeing
good things about this caliber. Does anybody own one and if so how do you like it? Pros and Cons..

It’s a good cartridge. Euro Optic has had Tikkas on sale for awhile. I have a Tikka t3x Lite in 6.5 PRC and like it.

I own a couple. A 6.5 PRC shooting 140gr Nosler AccuBonds is a hammer on whitetails.

Fine caliber. It's almost as hot as a .264 Win Mag, and seems to have better ammo availability.

I have a buddy with one. He loves it. It's one of the nicer savage rifles.

How many rounds of .280 have you used? Buy that many 6.5PRC.

I haven’t shot anything with mine yet, but my Tikka shoots the Berger 140gr Elite Hunters consistently under 0.5 MOA. I plan to get a 7 PRC for elk before long.

It doesn’t take a big cartridge to kill an elk.

My uncle has been killing deer with one for the last few years at 500-600 yards with the creedmoor and prc

Supposedly has accelerated barrel wear. 1000 to 1500 rounds before replacement. Other than that its supposed to be a long distance hammer

I love mine. I extremely accurate! I shoot 156 Berger EOL over 58gr of H1000.

A friend of mine has one and he really likes it other than it being kinda long and awkward since it has a 26 inch barrel.

What speed you getting with the 156s?

To beat a dead horse, the only thing the PRCs give you is ability to shoot heavy for caliber high BC bullets because the barrels have appropriate twist rates. Yeah they’re cool, but I’d take a 7mm Rem Mag over any caliber PRC any day. At ranges most people hunt with in Alabama, the difference between a 260, 6.5 Creed, 6.5x55, 264 Win Mag, etc isn’t likely to matter. I tend to shoot bullets on the lighter end of the caliber spectrum, but to each their own. Get what you like and shoot it til your good with it and trust it, that’s the important part.

I have loaded some at 57gr as well and they chronograph about 2920.

I hunt more with my 7mm STW then anything else, however i really like my 6.5 prc but my youngest Son's purty much taken it over lol. Oldest son has the 300 & i picked up the 7prc last year sometime and kilt a buck deer with it on my first sit. I do see the 7mm not taking off just like with the short mags, the 300 & 270 are still popular.

Just to be Dave the reloading nerd the .264 win mag is a lot more than the .260 or the 6.5 creed. Can't really run either the 6.5/260 super fast but Winlins 264 and a 26 inch barrel it's a whole nother breed of cat. I'd not hesitate to bust an elk with the big Winlin and a Partition.

Most 6.5 creedmoors are made with 8 twist barrels (the most common twist for 6.5mm blanks) and with any elevation at all (not 200 feet) they will adequately stabilize 156 EOLs and 153 Atips, and everything down. You don’t have to go to PRC velocity for that, and it’s the same 8 twist blank that’s most common in both creedmoor and PRC. 7.7 twist makes stability possible at sea level. 7.5 twist lets you run lower velocity.

Personally I like the 144 LRHT now over the 153 atip, 153.5LRHT or 156 EOL bullets with their negligible BC gains mostly being washed by velocity differences. Even in PRC I prefer the 144. It works very well on deer.

But I totally agree to pick and shoot whatever you want, whatever makes you happy.

I’m getting the 7mm PRC in a ruger rifle for the next gun I get. And I’m getting it because it’s cool and I like rugers. Not because of some numbers and coefficients and weights, but because it’s cool.

I hope they are still making bullets for it in the near future.
