It’s worse in the smaller schools where one or two kids can make or break a team. In baseball it’s the pitchers. Our little 1A school went to the state twice and got put out by private schools. I PROMISE nobody can or will recruit to where we are. You’re either born here or MAY move here for a job. Wed get to the playoffs and a private school would have 1-2 boys that can throw 80-90 and we’re toast. We don’t see that around here. We got put out in the basketball state championship by another private school with Div 1 recruits from Atlanta and Bham. No way that’s fair. Every boy on our team lives here. I get Thompson, Auburn, etc are recruiting but small schools aren’t. Something needs to be done. Why can’t they have their own “private” association? Pretty sure Mississippi already does MAIS.
So make your school better so people want to go there.
I know guys that coach in MS. It is just like Bama. Private schools can play in the private league or the MHSAA which has both.
