It's pretty obvious from some of these comments that there's a lot of assumptions made that aren't factual. For instance, it's not as simple as "go work hard and raise the money". In some systems, and I've had experience in one of them, school boards put strict limitations on how monies can be raised and in some instances how monies that are raised can be spent. The last sentence you wrote isn't even a close comparison. No one is asking for preferential treatment... only that there's a somewhat level playing field. And right now in the AHSAA, there isn't one and eventually they will have to do something about it. As someone who played football at one of these private schools (Briarwood) & was on a team that went to the state championship, I'll share my thoughts. High school football, aside from 6a-7a, can be dominated by hard work/discipline. IMO, that's why you see private schools perform so well in the lower divisions. The players on those private school teams have parents who are successful + involved in their lives, and the kids are products of that. We routinely beat the dogshit out of way more athletic teams. Not because of recruiting or resources, but because you had a group of kids who typically had solid character, work ethics, & intelligence.
