OP has a point but not sure there's a good solution. My now HS Sr. retired from Thompson baseball after his 10th grade year. When it's time for the tryouts, and there are as many kids 'trying out' from surrounding schools and states, it's gets disheartening for the HS athlete that isn't D1 material.

The latest "solution" the AHSAA kicked around from my understanding was to allow private and public to play during the regular season, but establish a playoff system under the AHSAA umbrella for the private schools desiring to play in AHSAA. We have a private school system in Alabama... when I heard that idea my first thought was "why don't they play in that system?" IMO, AHSAA is reluctant to do anything here because of $$$... private schools bring a lot of $$$ to the table.
