OP has a point but not sure there's a good solution. My now HS Sr. retired from Thompson baseball after his 10th grade year. When it's time for the tryouts, and there are as many kids 'trying out' from surrounding schools and states, it's gets disheartening for the HS athlete that isn't D1 material. Golf on the other hand as been great! No recruiting there yet  Yeah....I don't like the sound of this at all. You are a kid that grew up in a community playing ball with all your buddies and are now starting High School with them. Suddenly, it doesn't matter that you grew up there and that you and your family have been representing the community for years. You are now replaced by athletes "recruited" from other areas because the school system wants to have a winning team. High school athletics will soon be no different than college athletics complete with benefits for the recruited athletes family for moving them there. It's already that way in some places really, just kind of hidden. I have always said and always will, athletics and education should be separated.
The true mark of a man is not how he conducts himself during times of prosperity, but how he conducts himself during times of adversity.
