I have a 50 gallon electric water heater. Gas is not available unless I go with a bulk tank. Including my mom, there are six of us that live here. Well, six when my oldest is home from school but still, five with two being teenagers that can empty a tank. I thought about swapping it out with a 100 gallon tank but looking on line, they are extremely proud of those. Stupid proud. I also thought about adding a second 50 gallon tank. I’ve know one guy that did this a long time ago but I haven’t seen him in close to 30 years and wouldn’t k ow how to contact him to see how that worked out for him. Have any of you ever done this? If so, did it work well? Stupid idea? Other suggestions? (Other than putting a halve in to reduce their hot water)

I have 5 in my house, went with a 85 gal Rheem marathon. Nothing is unlimited, but if everybody’s reasonable it does good.
I’ve been know to go outside and throw the 90 cutoff I installed when I put on whole house water filters. WHEN they camp out in there. It’s a process….
I’ve heard two 50’s is very good too. I didn’t want that complication.

Tankless and be done with it. Electric tankless is extremely inefficient is what I have been told. If I still had gas, I would.

Why not get a propane tank and then install a propane tankless? I think you’ve said on here before that you wanted a whole house generator at some point down the road. 2 birds one stone.

Why not get a propane tank and then install a propane tankless? I think you’ve said on here before that you wanted a whole house generator at some point down the road. 2 birds one stone. This is what I did. I don't like looking at a tank so I had them bury it. You can literally have hot water on for days if you wanted to and the gas lasts a long time cause you only use it on demand.

Whatever the expense, it will pay for itself pretty quickly.
In fact, that's the absolute ONLY way I'd go.

I replaced my one year-old 50 gallon yesterday with a 80 gallon tank. I also have a auto booster on it. We’ll see in the next few weeks if there’s a huge difference.
