This past Tuesday my wife told me she had some pictures lined up for the girls on Saturday and I should go fishing. I looked at the weather forecast and knew we would have a good window to make a run down to the Chandeleur Islands so I sent some texts to several friends.
The first one to say count me in was Butch . The week progressed and brought more folks that wanted in and some had to bow out towards the end. Friday afternoon the crew was locked in and it was Butch , Dylan ,Matt , & Myself.
The weather couldn't have been any better and we made quick work from Pascagoula in the Blackjack.

We arrived down there and picked a spot that looked decent to start with. We hopped out with topwaters in hand and quickly realized there would be none of that happening with the crazy amounts of grass ontop of the water. I switched over to the new Deceiver paddletail that Coastal Brew Bait Co. has out and started working on the fish. As soon as it hit the water you had to start reeling it back or the grass on bottom would booger you up. The best colors that morning for me was the Orange Crush and Watermelon Red.

We all needed a snack and some cool drinks so we made the trek back to the boat to game plan for the afternoon wade. We wound up moving down the island a few hundred yards and started catching them quick again. My bait for the afternoon was the Original Slick Lure in the Croaker color by Pure Flats. The fish were loving that too. We had to dial in and figure out their bite because the were just mouthing the baits and not really thumping it hard most of the time.

We had an absolutely epic day down there! We over 200 fish landed as a conservative estimate with one of those being my biggest Bull Red pushing close to 50"!
Those are the days you dream about! The Chandeleur Islands is a super special place and if you ever have the opportunity to take a trip down there DO IT! You wont regret it!

This is a dream trip for me. I have a 24 fr cape horn off shore. Can I get close enough to wade and be safe.
Me and my buddies have talked about it for years about going

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

My phone screen does not always work right, usually a lot of misspelled words....

Yea you can. Just take your time and watch the depth close. We stopped in about 18" of water and waded close to 1/2 mile towards the beach in the spot we were in. My boat is a Blackjack 256 Coastal.

Yes you can. The furthest south point of Chandy has a deep flat on the sound side that you can take all the way to the beach. Just be careful when you're running the sound side as the shoals extend a good distance off of the island.

Awesome trip and great pictures.
I’ve been there once, about 10 years ago, and it was one of the best fishing trips ever for me.

We are thinking about going to stay at the jackup rig down there next time. It is really reasonable.
