Depends on the age of the boy...not sure I'd like putting a $500+ gun in the hand of a preteen.
I bought a Savage Axis from Academy that turned out to be a really great little rifle for under $400 w/ a scope. Got it in 6.5CM to avoid higher recoil for a 10yr old. He's 14 now and just killed two deer with it in Arkansas this season. There's a Ruger Predator Gen 2 waiting for him under the tree, also in 6.5CM, now that he's a little older and will more likely take care of it.
I really like the Weatherbys and such, just cautious about putting really nice equipment in the hands of young ones...
