I just think that all these charts and graphs can only cover what is game checked. And you can form patterns by that. But some of us been studying these deer since they first came in Jackson County. We know a little more than you give me and 2 dogs and a few more credit for

Here’s one of the biggest fallacies that deep farm is trying to convince everyone of……. Right now Jackson Co averages checking in around 2800 bucks per year on game check an around 1900 does……so hunters are killing substantially more bucks than does…….Now, when hunters start talking about the late born fawns, secondary rutting, poor ratios, yada yada……it’ll get said that the solution to their problem is that they just need to shoot more does……The fallacy in this though is that if we increase our doe harvest to 2800 to match the bucks that are being killed…..it likely wont be very long before the population density tanks and hunters don’t have 2800 bucks to be killed anymore……. Is this a new trend in the county?

You know a “tell” that some of you have that you’re full of chit that’s extremely easy to see……It's when a really valid point is made like the one above ^^^^ and folks either completely dismiss it or they change the subject and try to run right by it without it getting noticed…..Anyone who was truly an objective observer of a situation would acknowledge the point and take it into consideration….When folks take the approach of “moving right along” …..it makes it obvious that they likely have a set agenda they’re trying to push and that information is not good for it…. Or maybe.....just maybe.....folks don't see ALL of your points as valid and maybe......just maybe....you are wrong about some things. I know that's hard to imagine.

We know a little more than you give me and 2 dogs and a few more credit for Speaking of charts and graphs……I made us a new one to go along with that last post about Jackson Co averaging 2800 bucks and 1900 does per season……That 2800/1900 harvest ratio equates to 1.4 bucks being killed for every 1 doe……Here’s what that ratio looks like statewide….Where was it Matt hunts again?? ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/lKK2MpX.jpeg)

And where Matt hunts, there’s absolutely no shortage of does. Not just where I hunt, but nearly every place I help manage or visit. Does a plenty.

Succeeded on a couple places and still trying on others.

And I am going to tell you something else that isn't good. I been bowed up working on other peoples land I have not had time to keep mine up like I like it. Hunted yesterday on a 3 acre field on the very back that I had cleaned off with an excavator 5 years ago. I left all the oaks and let it grow up. Well like I say I have not had time to trap on my land. There was abought 6-10 inches of water everywhere what do you think is happening to all my acorns. I have a couple of big hills that I am saving for gun season. Fixing to pull about 20 conibears and go to war on them. Having to have shots in neck slowed me down also.

I was being facetious , CNC seems to want a deer behind every tree.

Red alert! Red Alert! Evidently there has been a population explosion in the SE quadrant of the state. Potential overharvesting going on across the board in Clay, Bibb, Chitlon, Hale, Perry, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Elmore, Lowndes, Montgomery, Macon, Bullock, Pike, Butler, Crenshaw, Butler, Barbour, Escambia, Covington, Geneva, and Houston counties. Harvests are up 3-7% across the board in all these counties. More deer? More hunters? More hungry hunters? More corn? Hunters finally learning to shoot accurately? This anomaly must be investigated fully. Harold your tracking business should be booming with all these additional kills in the 7-9 county area, right there in your backyard just east of Montgomery.

Harold your tracking business should be booming with all these additional kills in the 7-9 county area, right there in your backyard just east of Montgomery. For tracking to boom hunters need to be shooting at a bunch of “good bucks” instead of 99% of the harvest being 1-2 year old dinks……Its possible to kill the same number of bucks or even more but shift the harvest to younger age classes and eliminate or greatly reduce any older buck populations……Tracking calls have pretty much tanked for all trackers compared to 5 years ago for this reason......There's not nearly as many older bucks now……..Folks can run any kind of clown show you want to trying to distract from it but that’s still the truth of what has occurred. The “quality” of the management occurring in our state is bottom of the barrel.

I’m pointing out statewide trends across all 67 counties and not just basing my opinion off of a small handful of the best……Yes it is awesome that counties A, B, and C are doing well……but there’s 57 others that arent…….Its just like point made above about the number of bucks per doe being killed in many of the counties like with the 2800 and 1900 in Jackson……. How big of a circle will a buck roam on average during the rut in Jackson Co??....Counting any stray walk about ventures he may easily roam a 3 mile circle....right??….I mean that's likely really common with many buck likely roaming farther…..So that means when the rut rolls around and you’re determining how many bucks there are to breed those does on your property……then that buck population you're determining that from extends WAY on out from the boundaries of your property…….The number of potential bucks in your pool is a matter of the totality of what everyone else around you is doing…….So when you have a county like Jackson shooting 2800 bucks to 1900 does……That over harvest of bucks that’s occurring is likely impacting a majority of the properties in the county…..Compare that to a county like Fayette that’s shooting a similar amount of does at 1700 but only shooting 1600 bucks……I bet it’s a lot easier to manage for a good herd in that situation…..That situation doesn’t relate to the other though when saying…..”Just shoot more does and balance the herd”.....and if you look back at the map I posted.....there's a lot more of one occurring than the other...... Things are great over here on the west side though.

Again the fallacy in the idea that everyone just needs to shoot more does to fix poor herd dynamics is right there in that Fayette/Jackson comparison…….For Jackson to fix any buck to doe ratio problems it starts with that 2800 number and not the 1900…….The truth is that the 1900 does being killed is probably in the ballpark of what holds the population stable from year to year…..To fix any ratios you likely need to kill about 1000 less bucks…..not 1000 more does……..
And this is true for a majority of the state ^^^^^……with the exception of a few
