Is turkeys. I think wheat is a useless throw and mow crop.
I know some people love them, but they are an absolute PITA when it comes to getting cereal grains going. Even if you disk them under. Just curious, is this lease land with small plots or are you trying to maintain 3-5 acre fields? Usually on lease land their #1 objective is tree management limiting your ability to maintain adequate plot space to maintain the herd anyways. Then they spray and kill all the natural vegetation at times. Not saying there won't he good hunting just limitations on what you can do short of feeding protein mix and small plots. Maybe add fertilizer in areas without pines to aid natural vegetation like honeysuckle, which is high protein during antler growth season. It's a timber co lease, which is part of the problem. They sprayed this summer, and bascially killed 125 acre's of clear cut growth that was just starting to get good, and in the process, took out 4 of the fields I had planted because of wind drift. We can't feed either. That’s a tough spot. It’s also made you more vulnerable this year to every neighbor with a spin feeder since you can’t even counter it. I agree it’ll get better in time.
