bagged this fat doe at swan creek. So many ways to kill an animal, this might be a new way if your not wanting to sacrifice any meat. It went in the nostril and came out the back of the head.

My opinion is it dont really matter how you make something stop breathing, its dead either way. Pretty good shot.

Its a good way to just booger one up and make it suffer.....I've had to track a couple deer that had their jaws blown off and there's nothing we can do to recover them.....Rough way for a deer to have to die

Might be, but years ago I shot one almost identical to that by accident. It died, but that was the longest truck of my life and had to finish it off when I got to it. No blood, thankfully a leg was dragging or maybe it was from trying to get the arrow out.

Like CNC said, I shot one in the mouth one time and blew up his bottom jaw. I could see it flopping around as it ran through the trees. Couldn’t get a follow up shot. An older gentleman killed it a little ways down from me. As we got to him he asked which one of us shot the deer. I told him I did. He gave me one of the biggest arse chewings I ever got in my life. Which I very much deserved. He said the same thing about the deer starving to death because of the jaw shot up. I have never and will never take a head shot and head shots are forbidden at our place. People can do what they want anywhere else but we forbid it at the camp.

I shot a 6 point in the head once on purpose with a 270 at about 80 yards many years ago. I said I would never do it again on purpose. Instant death but a Pitiful sight. The only one Ive shot in the head since was a follow up shot on a running deer, just where i hit it.

I’ve seen a doe that had its bottom jaw shot off too. It’s a horrible sight and must be an excruciating death for them. No deer is worth taking that chance to me. I’ll be honest though. I don’t care much about killing deer anymore. Having so many around my new place, I’ve more enjoyment watching and patterning them. Figuring out how they move, where they move, how they come and go and what path they are going to take from one place to another. I know it would take my deer hunting to another level but I just get more joy out of it this way now. I’ll probably still take one or two for meat, or let my boys but I just don’t have the desire to shoot one anymore.

No thanks. Great way to miss a deer or slowly kill one with starvation or infection. If you want meat, why choose the shot placement most likely to result in getting zero meat? I'm not sure what the point is of posting something like this.

iam with you guys, I was actually aiming for another controversial shot, one to the chest, but the doe ducked her head into the arrow. if your gonna shoot an arrow past 20 yards you have will always have a chance of wounding a deer. deer can move. We are killing deer not harvesting wheat.

Years ago when we could kill 2 does a day, I had 2 big does and a yearling step into the food plot I was hunting. I double lunged the biggest doe and she ran back the way she came in with the yearling. I heard her crash and saw the other one had ran a little further out into the plot right through and opening I had ranged at 35 yards. I nocked another arrow and took the shot. She was quartered away and hit the ground like a sack of bricks and never twitched. I figured I had spined her. As I was walking up to her I couldn’t see an entry hole anywhere. My arrow was sticking up in the ground in front of her head and had blood literally dripping off the feathers. Noticed her right nostril was bloody. Got to checking and there was an entry hole right between her ears in the back of her head. She had jumped the string and was turning to her left when my arrow missed her body high and got her in the noggin. Didn’t even dull the blades on that Muzzy head.

Last day of the season last year, I had a staring contest with big boy for about 2 minutes. Only a face shot at 80 yards with a .450 BM. He was in some thick stuff and I had him in the glass. I winked at him and said, "I'll see you next year".

This is a totally different story if you accidentally hit her in the head after she moved. Your original post reads like you were aiming for her head to save meat and bragging about the shot.

Yall do what u want but Im not shooting a deer in the head. Very little room for error and I dont need to kill one that bad. One of the requirements for being a good hunter is my opinion is you wait for a high percentage kill shot. If that doesn’t present itself you don’t shoot. Just my 2 cents.

Exact scenario and results as I had. I was about 12 ft up in some thick stuff and heard them headed my way. Lead deer suspected something and stopped. I figured out real quick (after the track) that the chest straight on was not a shot to take with a compound bow. When the deer turned a 180, I would have bet money it buried in the chest cavity. Long bloodless track later and I found it with an almost identical result to the picture.

My buddy's first deer with a bow years ago, was nearly the same. We met up after dark and he was shook up after slinging an arra at a buck. Said he didn't know where he hit it, but heard it hit. Got the lights, and found it. Buried the arra all the way to the fletchings, right up the bunghole! Small 6.
