Spent a stupid amount of money to get kids/grandkids To the beach for 3 days before we all head to the farm. No storms, clear skies, wind 5 mph from the east, hardly any waves and freaking double red flags. I am so sick of the government screwing 99% of us to protect the 1% idiots. I wonder if at some point this crap will bite them in the arse if enough people decide to spend their money elsewhere. I will

https://www.nps.gov/pais/index.htmI don’t like people nor being babysitted. Its my favorite beach on the planet because of FREEDOM. I never go during holidays or weekends which are really never overcrowded anyways. I go during the week and off season and its desolate. It reminds me of so many parks out west, you wanna die…have at it ! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

What's the government and 1% of the people have to do with the beach? It's people's willingness to pay stupid money to roll up at someone else's beach condo for a week that has driven the prices up. Simple principles of supply and demand.

They have had so many idiots and maroons drown over the past few years that they got a hair trigger on the double red flags. Plus, giving out tickets generates revenue. Looks like they got great weather and Double Red Flags all week. https://www.weather.gov/mob/

No. The double red flag decisions are local sheriff/ems department based on the official forecast from the NWS and buoy data.

I taught my kids how to swim in Destin East pass during tide changes. Fear sharks not water.

Rarely a week goes by down along the Florida panhandle and I am sure the same on over the Alabama coastline where folks don't drown by a rip current. And usually it involves multiple people because those that attempt to save, usually the parents, drown and sometimes the person they try to save also drowns. People ignore the flags and even the double red flags all the time. Tourists probably don't see the news every night showing the drownings but it is very common. You can have calm looking water on the surface but a nasty rip just below.
Unfortunately, the ignorant folks ruin it for the smarter ones.

I work in a foundry. When my family wants to go to the beach, I tell them if I want to get hot and have sand down my crack, I'll go to work. Why do I want to swim in water where they have a shower for when you come out? I go to the mountains.

It’s not the weather forecast but the rip currents that get you a double red flag. I think the flag system saves lives. Often rip currents can’t be seen and no one should be in the water during rip currents. For those of you that will say “just make the flags advisory and I’ll take my chances”, you’ve never been in a rip current and tried to get yourself out.

Unfortunately, the ignorant folks ruin it for the smarter ones. Maybe you can share more updated information as this was all I could find. The information is only for this year and through July 2025 but three deaths in Panama City Beaches and 12 state wide from rip currents is far from someone every week. There is no single, updated national count for beach drowning deaths in Florida for the entirety of this year, but reports from July 2025 show three deaths in Panama City Beach and 12 other rip current fatalities state wide occurred by this point in the year. The most recent publicly available, year-to-date statistics were last reported in July, with ongoing reporting by local news sources and agencies like the Panama City News.

It's not exactly information that beach communities want to have released to news organizations because it impacts tourism and money.

There are so many public spots along the gulf coast from Gulf Shores down to Navarre Beach that are very small spots that don't have life guards or people monitoring things. Just find one of those spots and have fun. Last month I was at the public spot just past the Portifino resort where the snorkeling reef is. I bet there were only 15 people there. It was so peaceful. Last week went to the Navarre Beach snorkeling reef. Same thing, maybe 15 people. This is the best time of the year to go to the beach. I also have a paddleboard and a rescue type float that I like to use.

Hate the beach. Not a fan of sand everywhere. Me neither, but I go because Mountain Boho likes it, and our daughter and son in law live there and they like it. So I go several times a year with a positive attitude knowing that we will all have fun and make memories and take pictures that they all will have long after I'm gone.

So rip currents kill peoples? No. Dumbassery does. Rip currents just give them the opportunity to prove it.

I live down here, and other than to eat, I never go. Not my thing. Give me woods all day.
Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.
