The wife and I are gonna be down there in Ft. Morgan this weekend. We just enjoy the salt air and watching the waves so red flags don't matter to us. First vacation we've taken in a decade but this time we're bringing the dogs so wish us luck.

I'm like the beach like I am with the desert. Maybe 30-45 minutes at sunrise and then same at sunset. Rest of the time its hot, sandy, and dirty.

My kids live in Foley, so I do go that far from time to time to see and take them out to eat. Much rather be up on the river or the woods. I raised my kids in the woods but after my divorce they like that life down that way more. It's where their momma moved too.

Rip currents have nothing to do with my disdain for the beach. It’s just generally not enjoyable regardless.

The beach is awesome 2 times a year. Took me a while to learn that once I moved down there but once I did it was great.

Grew up 15 miles from the Atlantic (till I was 16). moved to the gulf after that (currently 47). You can walk out roughly 5-10 ft into the water and know if the rip currents are bad. I will swim all day in saltwater…you can’t pay me to jump in a lake. Just what you are used to.

Grew up on bareback tractors and if it had a cab the a/c didn't work (farmer's son, so I got the less comfortable equipment to operate), so like others, I don't enjoy the heat that goes along with the beach. Wife doesn't get in the water, so if we go with a group we'll do the beach thing, but if going by ourselves or for work we stay at the pool....by the beach...out of the sand. My suggestions are always snow skiing or other chilly/cold climates.

I live a few miles North of the Beach. Me and my Wife go down there to eat and every now and again go in the Flora-Bama for a little while. We don’t go out in the sand or water. I did that plenty as a kid and don’t care for that part of the beach at all anymore.

My family owned a beach house on the west end of Dauphin Island right on the gulf of America.... nearly all but lived there many times through out the four seasons.... in me and my brothers younger days we loved it ...everything about it,,,especially making a bon fire of drift wood running around chasing sand crabs at night..... walking and running up and down the beach for a mile in each direction just looking for what ever... many times throwing a quilt down a bed sheet and a pillow and sleeping to the cool breeze flowing off the gulf.

The worst things, grains of sand....keeping grains of sand from getting into your ham samich and sun burn,, sun burn, cause way back then you slathered that Coppertone lotion on with the little girl on the bottle to get cooked, there was no known threat or push to protect your skin back then.. We got so dark you'da thought we wuz doing the black face thing...

Hurricane Frederick took the house and the house property got sold... kind of miss it now,,, would have loved to have sat on the upper porch in the mornings drinking a coffee and enjoying the view and making some Vitamin D.

Exactly! I'm old and don't really enjoy the beach except when I'm fishing and eating in the fine dining establishments in the GS/OB area. I don't enjoy it enough to go just those though but my family likes it down there so I go.

The wind has been blowing from the East, Southeast or Northeast for over a week now. That is where the rip comes from, and we had a king high tide because of the harvest moon.
