I found one little tree I could get in and set my platform for my saddle in the fork of the tree while I was standing on the ground couldn't have been more than 7 foot high. About 620 I saw him step out about 300 yards away and knew he was a good one. I checked him with my binoculars once and then put them up and tried to not look at his antlers again. Slowly but surely he made his way back to that bed that was maybe 10 foot from my tree. He cleared some brush at 28yards from my stand and when he looked away I let him have it. I hit him between the 4th and 5th rib from the back and got liver. He was blowing blood everywhere and watched him for about 50 yards until I couldn't see him anymore. I talked the shot over with turkeyneck cnc and hitek and everyone seemed pretty confident with the shot. I gave him two hours and slipped down the blood trail and found him dead next to a tree 100 yards from the hit site. I had him pegged for a 125-130 inch deer but when i saw him i realized he was a lot bigger than that and i just lost it. I just sat down and looked at him until turkeyneck and his son made there way over to me. We scored him 3 different times and came up with 161.5-163. I still feel like I'm in in shock. I never thought I'd have an opportunity at a deer that size much less on public land. I gotta thank Bradley and Steven for all of there help in packing him out and staying up with me until 2am getting him ready for the trip home. Hopefully if I ever have a chance at another one he won't be 2 miles from the truck
