I think it'll probably be this way a lot going forward. With the new pref points system I don't think many people are gonna want to burn their points on a Stimpson/Upper State hunt. I've had great hunts at both, don't get me wrong, but they're no Portland, Cedar, or Uchee.

That many Portland draws, on just members of this site, and all the alternates all getting upgraded to hunter and still getting alternate notifications for other hunts......something just doesnt sound right.

I accepted a Hunter spot Jan 6 at Portland. I’ve now gotten emails about alternate spots Jan 15 and Jan 22 at Cedar Creek

I think it’s just people’s slots expiring from neither accepting or declining.

I was still debating my first 4 slots when it expired and I got an email a couple hours later telling me I got selected for 4 more. I’m guessing they just keep running lottery every 72 hours based on what wasn’t accepted/declined

So you're saying people are turning down early January Portland landing rut hunts, left and right? I just dont see that happening. It's the best SOA in the state, by far, and the one hunt that everyone that throws their name in the pot, wants to draw. Hope for everyone that did get drawn sake's that it is legit and not another ADCNR screw-up.

If this all works out and is correct, I should have a fine January. I drew Portland Landing Jan 6-9 and my dad drew Cedar Creek Jan 22-25

I didn’t get any duck draws either. This was my first year putting in for those though

My cousin just got bumped up to hunter for Upper State opening weekend of bow season......He's saying that it says "hunter choice" but that area is in Zone B that doesnt allow for doe harvest until the 25th......Are SOA's exempt from that or is his hunt a buck only hunt??

My understanding is that the SOA's can be more restrictive than the regular state regs, but not less restrictive. Ultimately, the Biologist for that area who is managing the Hunt will be the one to give the definitive answer.

Not getting overly optimistic but if you kill a buck on an SOA hunt does that count against the 3 buck limit? I thought I read someplace in the regs that it did not.

A couple of years ago, the biologist on my hunt said it counted towards your 3

It counts toward your state limit of 3

I found the rules for it......looks like that's a buck only hunt......Probably why its getting turned down I guess
