I don't think a person should get fired for exercising their First Amendment protected right to free speech in their private life. If you're doing it while on the clock, then that's another story. It's not their "private life" when they're posting it publicly....the first Amendment says they can't be arrested for saying it, it does not say that their employers cannot disassociate with them for choosing to publicly say/do something that could potentially financially harm the company, or their company's public reputation, due to their association Exactly. Doesn’t mean there won’t be consequences. Think Dixie Chicks. You're going backwards. The First Amendment protects a natural right which exists whether anyone else likes it or not. Saying an employer should be able to fire you is like saying the king should be able to evict you. You are separated from your living and made outlaw because you exercised a natural right.
