So I'm already thinking about next year's planting options. So, here's my question, I have an old hay field that I plan to burn off in February or March. It has sweet gums sprouting all in it, what can I spray to kill them good once they resprout after the fire? I want to spray them good and then plant corn, milo, and beans. any advice is welcome.

Crossbow spray will definitely kill them. We have used that on small trees and bushes for several years, but not on green fields. Don't know what that will do to a field you are going to plant.

I’m pretty sure cross bow will have some residual soil effects. I would just use gly. Just stay when they are sprouting.

I use a 41% gly. concentrate to spray my green field to kill grass and weeds, but when I spray the sides of the fields with it to kill bushes, it's never really done a good job. Maybe a 51% would do it.

I've used Crossbow when taking back plots from Kudzu. It will kill young trees and you can plant a few months later with no issues. Or, I should probably say that II had no issues and it was very effective. Up until I started using Crossbow, the Kudzu was laughing at the Gly.

Crossbow is 2,4D and Triclopyr and only the 2,4D has soil residual. I'd give it 30 days and plant.

Did you consider maintaining the perimeter to control spread and just managing the kudzu as your warm season forage? It’s pretty hard to beat for preference and forage quality.

Well it depends on what kind of bush it is, but when you spray the gly, it depends on how hot you mix it.

Can you burn it in the next month? That would help with sweetgums.

I don't think the grasses would burn right now, way to green, and I'd be a little worried about fire as dry as it is. I may just have to hit it really heavy with gly in the spring once they start sprouting.
