My cousin has a 2015 f150 with a camper top. The engine is blown. 6 cylinder, but only 5 cylinder work. He drove it from Tampa area to SW GA. Everything else seems to work fine, AC/Heat, no transmission issues, etc. ~160k miles.
What is it worth? Would it be worth putting up for trade for a golf cart or a side by side ATV?

A new crate engine is going to be $10-12k. If you think the truck is worth more than that, go ahead and replace. I doubt anyone wants to trade for a busted truck.

A lower mileage used 3.5 twin turbo engine will set you back 6K or so. Look on car-part.com
How do you know its blown? It could have something else wrong with it.

i wonder if its the eco boost(twin turbo) or the plain 6 cylinder. typically, when a twin turbo motor goes, its due to cam phasers and the whole engine is garbage. if its not the twin turbo, motor replacement might not be bad. is it a "work truck" plain white base model?

Low compression ,no spark, bad fuel injector, burnt valve. All that is fixable. Why doesn't that cylinder work. As long as the block is good, I wouldn't think you need a motor.

I saw an youtube on an LS truck, it had a broken valve spring and no compression. Replace the valve spring, good to go.

First thing to do is find the issue could be as simple as a spark plug or coil

I had the 2012 version of that truck. The turbo imploded and shot parts of itself into the motor. This was 6 months after the we replaced the cam phasers. Loved the truck but replacing that motor was expensive.

If it grenaded, drop a Jasper motor in it and drive it for 2 more years then sell. 3yr/100K warranty on the Jasper and it is transferrable to the new owner. Probably run you about $6K You'll get 10 cents on the dollar for it, trying to sell it or trade it, not running properly. Spend a little to make a lot more. The final net number you get for it, at the end of the day is all that matters.

I'd want to know the cause first, then I'd scoot down to the local junk yard and look for a motor from a wrecked truck. Cheaper. No reason to spend a lot on a truck with that many miles. Anything is better than a payment for me.

Before making any decision - I would have a mechanic look at it and scope the cylinder and valves.
As many others have said, it could be something less expensive plug, wiring, coil, injector,...etc - the list goes on, but I would get an opinion from a reputable mechanic.
IF the engine is the issue - as abolt stated, Jasper makes a good engine and has an outstanding warranty.
