I used to ride that exact same light rail route when I lived in Charlotte. Was a great way to get to and from uptown but it got sketchy about the time all the BLM protest stuff started up. Seems to coincide with that whole defund the police movement. Last time I rode it almost ended in a self defense scenario against a group of teens (you can guess the demographic). Little to no fare enforcement and the private security hired by the city is basically a money laundering operation as I’ve never seen them at the station or on the light rail.

I truly feel for the young lady as she probably didn’t have a sense of awareness that one should have if traveling on public transit in this country. As to the perp, his own mother argued against having him released after his last criminal offense but the magistrate let him walk on a signature bond. That magistrate should be held accountable, and this guy should get the needle for his crime. But we all know democrats won’t let that happen. And Charlotte is completely controlled by Democrats. All the more reason to stay out of those cities unless you absolutely have to go.
