Why was he charged with two counts of murder? The red truck was stolen maybe? Another murder not released yet? Surely they'd not be charging him with the death of the dog if it was killed? I emphasize that I don't not know any details but just as a way of explaining the charges, if she was raped that would be one count of Capital Murder and if she was also robbed, that would be count two of Capital Murder. If somehow a jury did not find she was raped then they can still find him guilty of Capital Murder if they find she was robbed. It just gives the DA more leeway in a trial. Each element that meets the statute for Capital Murder will be a separate charge. What Jawbone said is the reason for multiple capital murder charges.
