3Bailey the heat solution is to find somewhere with nice summers and figure out a way to spend a few months there. All my kids/grandkids are in Utah and this year we spent 3 weeks in July/August this year and it was awesome. Right now we are trying to figure out how to be out there most of summer. Only fly in the ointment is she lives up near the ski resorts in an area that is very pricey. If timber prices ever get good again I may cut every stick of pine timber on my place and buy something out there I can Airbnb during winter ski season.

Here's a topic I've been having with my co-workers. I turn 62 next March. I've said I'm drawing my Social Security. They keep telling me if you wait till I'm 70, I'll get more. I know this, but may not even be around at 70. My health isn't all that great at 61. I'm drawing my money while I can. Been paying in since I was 15. Gonna get it while I can.
Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

And add to that thinking is the fact that while you are still able, you can find something part time, or full time if you want, that will make up any difference in money. Get it while you can is what I would advise someone in your shoes.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I'll have my pension, Coast Guard Retirement, and my 401. On paper, it looks good, but we all know how that works sometimes.

I’ve spent 8 weeks healing from surgery & I don’t miss work a bit. I’ll probably stick to my plan & work 3 more years.

I’m not even 40 and I’m ready to retire. If I can ever get all the shit I own paid for and enough investment properties paying me enough money to sit on the beach of the river property I own ill go ahead and say you ain’t gonna get much out of me. Over the years it seems the more I grow my business and try to expand the more money I spend and go further in debt. I’m about damn tired of working myself to death to still be freaking broke at the end of the damn week

A lot of factors involved , 70 may be fine for your co-workers , or maybe they just think it is. Some folks 62 is best , some 65-67 , some 70. I'm a bird in the hand guy, I took my SS at 62 and rolled my 401k into a self directed IRA and haven't touched it . It's what I'll be taking at 70 ish. If I check out my estate get's my 401k/IRA $ , but Uncle Sam will keep my SS $

I retired fully about 2 yrs at 66 ago and love it. BUT I have plenty of personal stuff to keep me a busy as I want. I am either cutting grass, bush hogging, spraying, planting or cutting/site prepping/planting timber, etc.. Just make sure you have something to do that you ENJOY. I have beat cancer twice and had 6 bypasses which totally changed my perspective! Don''t wait too late!!!!

Quailman do some math on not taking SS for 8 years, how many years will it take you to make that amount up at 70, longer than you will probably live! I took mine the first day I could!

Yeah buddy, that's what I'm planning too! Plus the thing to consider is what the money will be worth now vs in the future. The longer you wait, the less the money is going to be worth even though you will be getting a bigger check and even though they have cost of living increases. The later money will buy less stuff. Another thing to consider is if you take the SS money now it means the less money you need to take from your 401k or IRA now and you can leave that money in there and let it grow and earn interest.

For most men in most situations the best bet is to draw as early as eligible. I personally waited to max out my monthly since it’s double my wife’s and I wanted it as high as possible because odds are very good she will outlive me and can take my ss benefits when the time comes.

I’ll be 58 in December and plan on retiring around the first of March. Wife is too and she is going to open her travel agency and I’m probably going to work 2-3 days a week for fun money.

Retired from the State after 26 years at 45yo. Started second career 8 days later and been with the present company for a little over 10 years. Gonna stay a few more years and call it for good.
