Shot birds here in West Tennessee this afternoon and found a small black seed that the all the birds had in their craw. I was hunting sunflowers that had too sown wheat strips. The farm to one side had cut corn three days ago. None of those seeds were present just this small seed in all the birds. Have pics I can send to anyone with information. Thank you.

My first guess would be pigweed seeds. I’ve seen that in doves before. They would be dropping seed now.
If you do the things you need to do when you need to do them then someday you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them.

Don’t know what it’s call I’ll try to find out but the sod farm we hunt has it in the edge of the field. Doves love it.

Jerry always called it wild mustard seed. Said dove loved it. We got plenty of pigweed at the farm and I don’t see them in it. 🤷♂️

I’ve seen it in dove craws as long as I’ve killed them. I’ve made mention on dove hunts the birds are hitting the green patches in the corn. I’d always assumed that’s where they were getting those black seeds. Those pics look similar to wild mustard and or wooly croton. I’ve seen goosegrass seeds or something similar too. I have a hedge row of autumn olives and they hit those too when the berries are right

Check Morning Glory, had a field of sunflowers that had morning glory running up the stalks and the doves were in the morning glory more than the sunflowers and the seed looked very similar to these.

Has morning glory already seeded out? Ours hasn’t at the farm but our corn is usually a month later than most due to cold wet soils
